It would hard to mention what people are talking about at Know More Media if I didn’t note that we published our 1,000th post. It is thrilling for us to reach this milestone and we hope it is the first of many noteworthy accomplishments. Congrats to Maria Palma, author of CustomersAreAlways for writing our 1,000th.
The ebb and flow around the network has been interesting recently. Mentions of food have been popular for some reason, dominated by Rich Ottum at Marketingblurb who mentioned junk food, cheese cubes and sausage links, Starbucks, tomatoes, and cereal. Rob Willers at TheAirlineHub added a post on Dunkin Donuts. If that seems out of balance, we can counter that with LeasingNotes take on off-balance sheet financing which seems like a meat-and-potato accounting topic.
There were a couple of interviews posted this week, Easton Ellsworth at BusinessBlogWire posted an interview with Dave Coustan, author of the Earthlink blog. Our venture capital blog, VCSmart interviewed Dave Shappel of Unitus about Microfinance. Unitus is one of 25 national winners of the 2006 Fast Company/Monitor Group Social Capitalist Award. Devin Thorpe at MidMarketMaven reported on a keynote address by Jim Sorenson, entrepreneur and private equity investor. Tom Evslin, a pioneering figure in the development of the Internet, a "serial CEO," and most recently, a novelist shared his thoughts with Jason Boog, author of ThePublishingSpot.
We found discussions of conferences and professional associations. VCSmart covered the entire University Private Equity Summit with at least 60 posts on the proceedings and the participants. Wow! BusinessBlogWire announced a conference on blog strategy aboard a cruise ship to Cozumel. On TranslationMaven, we learned about translations for international conferences and speeches. Smallbizmentor offered ideas on using membership in professional associations to benefit your small business. Meanwhile, our beloved George Parker from AdHurl found his way to Great Falls, Montana to judge the regional ADDY Awards. Speaking of awards, TheAirlineHub reported that United Airlines won several best-of awards in from the Global Traveler's 2005 travel industry awards.
What week would be complete without love and hate for Google? Colbert Low at ITechTips offered two posts on Google while AdHurl took a peek at Google’s venture into offline advertising with its acquisition of dMarc Broadcasting.
Sports showed up as a hot topic. On Leadernotes, I tracked three different leadership stories drawn from basketball while MarketingBlurb posted on stories relating to the coming Winter Olympics and its mascot.
We were reminded of one of the two certainties in life – death and taxes by SmallBizMentor. One of our newest authors, Noelle Wong of ImageAid covered everything from eye contact to using proper voice. James Clark of BizImpressario took a great look at the concept of the magalogue (hybrid magazine and catalog). Since we are in the thick of the flu and cold season, I found it noteworthy that Gary Bourgeault, author of ManagersRealm provided several posts on sick leave policies and issues.
More good stuff coming up so stay tuned.
