One of our breakout posts this last week in the Know More Media network came from a post on MarketingBlurb by Rich Ottum about the Pamela Anderson and her effort to remove the bust (no pun intended) of KFC Founder Colonel Harland Sanders.
 
The post was about the Public Relations bonanza that will come to Pamela, to PETA, and to KFC from the controversy.  By commenting on the story, MarketingBlurb winds up also benefiting from some of the buzz about the story, getting 8 times more traffic on this one story than from any other post.  Much of our traffic to the post came from a Netscape News with CNN article about Pamela Anderson's efforts.  MarketingBlurb's post was one of the Editor's Web Picks about What People are Saying.  So, getting a plug from a mainstream media source certainly helps.
 
This was also a post that elicited strong emotions about the issue.  The comments were split into three camps.  Most were those that criticized Pamela Anderson and those that criticized PETA.  Only a few defended Pamela.  Here is a sampling of some of those comments (I did not include some of the more explicit comments):

Among those that criticized Pamela, many felt that she should return to Canada:

• why do you not exercise your freedom by taking your sorry fake body and go back to Canada where you belong
• you leave kfc alone it is none of your busines go back to canada
• Go back to Canada Pammie, you're a used up old rag, leave US alone
• go home pam, stay out of kentuckys business. your just a publisity hound

A number of commenters felt that they could make their point by criticizing Pamela's figure:

• Pamela should go after the "silicone" industry for the damage done to womens bodies. Of course she wouldn't be famous if it wasn't for silicone
• ...perhaps we should outlaw silicon, what about makeup..but then where would you be then.
• I don't understand the problem, you both made your fortune from famous breasts!! At least the Colonel's were REAL!!!
• has the silcone from you breast gone to your head
• The only bust "former Baywatch star" Pammie should worry about is the one full of silicone she has

Commenters that criticized PETA said:

• Have you checked out their websight? Nothing but has beens, losers and wanna bees that can't cut it in the real world and will trash anything to get attention.
• I am happy for you...however dont push your diet down my throat...guess what..babe..I eat steak..chicken
• I think people like you and Peta need to get a life and quit harping on those of us that like to eat meat.
• Are you people aware of what the organization of P.E.T.A. is really about....Instead of being for Animan Cruelty, They kill over 60% of the Aminals and have been caught putting dead animals in dumpsters

Some felt this was part of a bigger political issue:

• Wake up people lets keep KY a RED State get rid of the liberals the Anti Christain Lawyer Union. Do not stand for it. WE are the majority
• Lets take this to the U.S. Supreme Court, now that the cronie phony far left wing weirdos are being replaced with men of integrity and honor...this nonsense will stop...
• Im an ex smoker..but I dont shove my beliefs down other peoples throat..worry about pedophiles..looney liberals...real issues....

There were only a few in support of Pamela:

• Good job, Pamela Anerson. I am with you. I went vegan last year. I am happy with it. I dont eat meats.
• Pamela thank you, keep up the good work. I know you will, Don't mind the rude people

And finally, there was one plea for more civility:

• Wow! what a bunch of RUDE& NASTY people we have here.Can I pray for you to be delivered from EVIL? DONE! AMEN.
