Top 10 Signs You Work For A Web Publishing Company
I couldn't resist.

Here are the top ten signs that you work for a Web publishing company:

10. Your eyes, wrists, neck, shoulders and back are always sore - from sitting all day long
9. Others find your job as boring to describe as you find it exciting to actually do
8. You have recurring nightmares about electromagnetic pulse weaponry (as opposed to fire) wiping out your published work
7. You've Skyped your boss to discuss important work matters at midnight while cutting your toenails in bed in your pajamas
6. Time is your best friend when you stumble out of bed in the morning - and your worst enemy when you're scrambling to finish work at night
5. Work conversations frequently degenerate into discussions of snazzy tech neologisms such as "GeekSnarkery 3.0" and "slashboingzingofarkwireliciousreddiggrojoscaping" (sung to the tune of "supercalifragilisticexpialidocious"!)
4. Your job description has changed so many times over the past year that sometimes you're not really sure what you do anyway
3. You've got about 37 varieties of OCD, including GCME (gotta-check-my-email), GCMF (gotta-check-my-feeds), GCMS (gotta-check-my-stats) and GVMWTSIAC (gotta-visit-my-website-to-see-if-anything's-changed)
2. Despite accomplishing superhuman feats throughout the day, you never *quite* feel "done" with your work

And the NUMBER ONE sign that you work for a Web publishing company:

1. In spite of all the stress, you just plain love your job

Absolutely love it! Hilarious! Thanks for making me laugh. Here are a couple others I would pitch in: -- It is impossible to describe your job in writing, and it takes at least 5 minutes of vocal conversation to do it. And even that's no guarantee. -- You constantly wonder if every person in the world has your email address at the top of their Contacts list.
Easton - what a great list. I work as a consultant but I am TOTALLY with you on 10, 9, 6, 4, 3, 2, and 1 - especially 3!!!
Dan, I probably send more link spam your way than anyone else haha. Thanks for commiserating Ann! :)
I've learned to just say "I'm a writer" and not elaborate, Dan, unless someone knows what a blog is. Then there are the ones who know what a blog is...that being one of those digital diaries where people spew out waaaaaay too much personal information about how much they drank last night and what happened this morning in recovery. The response is usually "You get PAID to blog?" *chuckle* That's when I make sure to let them know it's about business. And not the bar business.
Melonie, thanks for the great comment! Blogger = writer = publisher = producer = editor = artist = thinker = etc.
