Snakes on a Plane Goes Viral
I received a voicemail from Samuel Jackson yesterday. Yes, the actor famous for films like Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones, Coach Carter and Shaft called me.

In short, Samuel suggested that I, on August 18th, I forget about my job messing around with computers, stop wasting all my free time throwing upsnakes on a plane.jpg bricks on the basketball court, quit diddling with my dorky glasses, and hop in my cute wannabe sports car, get my daughter and go see Snakes on a Plane.

How do I know Sammy, you ask? I don’t but my daughter, had this voicemail sent to me through a cool tool at the movie’s website that lets you customize a voice or email message from Samuel like the one I received.

This is as Seth Godin would say, “remarkable” and Flipping the Funnel. It reminds me of similar phenomena that Tim and I experienced in 1999 when we were at freeservers.com. Buzz about the movieThe Blair Witch Project” took off across websites that freeservers hosted. The film’s grass roots support and best marketing came from its fans.

Several years later some of these sites not only exist but still rank in the search engines – check out http://tbwp.freeservers.com/.

As Seth says,
Turn strangers into friends,
Then turn friends into customers,
And then do the most important thing,
Turn your customers into salespeople.

And now “Snakes in a Plane,” a movie which I never intended to promote, let alone see, got some great promotion on Know More Media. And you are reading it and will likely get Sammy to send a voicemail to someone you know.

Mission accomplished.

I can’t believe it! But, you know, sometimes kids go ahead their parents. If it’s true, as Sammy would say, you might have some little snakes in your phone…
The only problem is that the movie looks really bad. The marketing might be new and cool and out there, but at the end of the day, it's just another Hollywood blockbuster. I'd like to see new, innovate marketing connected to new, innovative products.
There is a "new methods marketing" company called "Relevant Communications" based in San Francisco, that creates software. Their clients can use thiscapability....and more, creating customized one-to-one communications. You can personalize voice by email, phone, or on-demand via the web, from any database, including web-based info. Very forward thinking marketing capabilities. They developed this concept back in late 90's, check out their website as above.
