Are we too late to contribute telling the story of New Orleans or to help spread the word? I hope not because sadly I don’t think everyone has heard the truth. I know I had not until a week or two ago.
We didn't know Chartreuse. We just read his blog. We met him for the first time yesterday in relation to this effort. From my perspective (dry and safe), Chartreuse undertook this endeavor because he saw a disconnect between what the main stream press reported and what he heard from people in New Orleans. He took some action to find the truth. Maybe the truth is already out there but it is hard for us to fault someone for spending resources to find it and being willing to increase the noise about an important issue.
KMM is happy to promote anybody that wants to share the truth about life in New Orleans post Katrina. Your comments to Easton’s post yesterday have opened our eyes to resources that we will promote to tell your story.
I believe that the more people that tell
this story, the more it will be heard. I can honestly say that we did not commit time and money to this cause to subvert the bloggers in NOLA. To our discredit, we were not aware of all that has been told about this story. For that we are sorry. Nor are our efforts intended to discount the citizen journalists that are blogging first-hand about the aftermath of Katrina. If we believe nothing else, it is that citizen journalism like blogging will change the world.
Until now, we did not realize the voice that emanates from New Orleans on this issue. To me, that we have discovered this voice has already made all of this worthwhile. I am hopeful that cooperation and goodwill can prevail in a united effort to amplify the blogging voice in New Orleans. The story deserves to be heard by more.
