Two posts that immediately caught my eye today were about the demise of the traditional job interview. Are job interviews a waste of time? Seth Godin seems to think so, particularly in creative fields. BrainBasedBusiness offers some tips on making the suggested alternative to the interview work.
Stereotypes are part of our brain’s way of processing stimuli and
categorizing things in our surroundings. Although usually rooted in some truth, stereotypes often do more harm than good. GoodRecruits called attention to a few business stereotypes that need to change, pointing out that when you look deeper than what is on the surface, businesses run well and people can work better.
I found the article about China tightening labor laws interesting. One would expect that laborers get a fair shake in a communist country but as this post reveals, working class people can be exploited in any economic system.
I also love reading about when “old businesses” revamp themselves to stay successful. Disney has been making strategic moves to find its way after seeming to wonder aimlessly, including appointing a new Disney World president Meg Crofton. According to Manger’s Realm this is great exercise in continuity; of which the company is in desperate need. BizofShowBiz also announced the launch of a new division at Warner Brothers. In an endeavor to keep up with the changes of new media, Warner Bros. introduced “Studio 2.0.”
