It was one year ago today that we announced Know More Media and began recruiting authors to write niche business news, information and analysis. It has been a crazy and fun ride and the excitement continues as we look forward to another successful 12-months.

In child development, the first two years are critical in defining many of the characteristics of a child.  Children also have genetic code that defines and influences some of these characteristics – this code cannot be changed.  Businesses are typically not quite so hard-coded but there are still influenced. We noted in an early post those that influenced us as we undertook this adventure  - people like Seth Godin, Jeff Jarvis, Robert Scoble, Jason Calcanis, Shel Israel and Dave Taylor.  We can now say that we have met each of these and our respect remains intact.

At Know More Media, our vision has been to publish online business information and news.  This vision was set out in initial posts on the who, what, why, where, how, and when of Know More Media.  While much has stayed the same our vision has also evolved in the past 12 months.  We have learned and had assumptions confirmed.  We can now say that we KNOW MORE about

• Extremely talented business practitioners that are also excellent authors and looking for a voice
• A network that has value beyond the sum of its parts
• Our readers - 65% of  have earned a Bachelor's Degree or higher and almost half work for small businesses
• How everyone loves PEZ
• A global supply of business knowledge (talented authors) and global demand for business knowledge (curious and loyal readers)
• Our authors - 70% of  have published a book and 55% have owned a business
  
• PayPal being a great tool for a growing business with a distributed workforce
• How Skype keeps us all in touch and iChat is the coolest
• The traffic that flies to blogs about pop culture, gossip and politics and not as much to blogs about accounting and economics
• How advertisers value business readers much more than the pop culture audience
• Niche topics that attract niche audiences
• How authors that although spread across the globe are still unified in purpose and share a tremendous sense of community
• DIGG and Fark and that there is demand for a social site for business and we call it BIZZBites.
  

It has been a prosperous year.  In 2007 we hope to push Know More Media beyond just a publisher of business blogs.  Our vision is to publish, aggregate and syndicate business news and information and create a network where content leads to commerce.
