YouTube has been a hot news topic on the Know More Media network recently, lets take a look at what some of the authors are saying.
We all know that the founders of YouTube made a killing when Google acquired the site. YouTube’s leaders were not greedy about their succes
s, as many of their employees also benefited from the video sharing site’s rise to pop phenomenon status.
AListReview author Diane Ensey examined the naiveté of YouTube and their “…post ‘em all and let God the users sort them out…” strategy, indicating that the age of innocence may soon be over for the administrators at YouTube.
As one of his first official acts, CEO of NBC Universal Jeff Zucker served the site warning, stating that he expected to see progress with the implementation of technology to protect copyrighted works. Big media companies like Viacom are also coming out of the woodworks demanding that YouTube remove copyrighted content. I can see why YouTube would drag their feet on appeasing the traditional media sharks; the implementation of such software would be antithetical to YouTube’s original model.
While many who are following this story trust that the leaders at Google carefully planned out and weighed the pros and cons of the YouTube acquisition, we also are hanging on the edge of our seats to see if the deal will pay off. Rupert Murdock had some interesting insights on why YouTube may have difficulty using the mass media advertising model successfully and why he does not consider the video sharing site a MySpace competitor.
