Know More Media Review: Hacking Politicians, Revising History and Extreme Fan Fiction

Politicians courting online users have a tough rope to tow, as John McCain recently found out when his MySpace page was hacked by Newsvine admin Mike Davidson. The blogosphere buzzed about it for days and Jon Stuart even saw fit to feature the prank on the Daily Show. Funny enough, and unfortunately for McCain, Davidson did not break any laws because McCain was sucking up Davidson's bandwidth; that naughty politician.

ThePublishingSpot had several interesting articles this week. Though I must say I was slightly disturbed by the idea of pirating books. It's hard enough to make a buck as a writer without the makers of fan fiction pre-publishing unofficial copies of your work. Illegal or not, this is wrong and taking it to the extreme. Will the birth of fan-screenwriting lead us down the same road? revisionist%20history.jpg

Is the Japanese government planning to re-write history? According to TheBizofKnowledge author Bill Belew, the answer's a resounding YES. Our capitalist breathren to the East plan to alter 7 high school history books. Revisionist history is a scary thing but Japan would not be the first country to re-write history, to cast themselves in a more favorable light. Western countries have long gotten away with this historical cosmetic surgery, it is a shame it is spreading.

BizMediaScience author Joseph Carrabis ran an interesting series about resumes going the way of the dinosaur. While the findings by contributing author Sweetness left me feeling as though we were all in danger of being hired based solely on an online application, after a lively series of discussions with my fellow Newsviners, I came to realize that even if resumes become obsolete, the interview will never die.

Join me in welcoming Carolyn Manning, the new author of ProductivityGoal (my welcome comes via shout out, you should check out her blog). She has jumped head first into the Know More Media fray with articles about re-grouping and has called on us to help fellow Know More Media author Bill Belew, who has aparently bitten off more than he can chew. Boy, do I understand that feeling.

Thanks, Kimberlee. Bill's like most of us; frankly, though, I'm not so sure that I can help him, other than with understanding. Will you drop over to help me clean my desk? :)
Hello, I got a note about that NewsVines thread sometime yesterday and dropped a note there. Interestingly enough, Sweetness sent me more information regarding her research about the interaction between Job Seekers, the 'net and HR types. That should be starting today. - Joseph PS) I just called Sweetness and read her this post. She told me that, sorry to say, interviews are going away. Most people she talked with agreed that people are losing interviewer and interviewee skills to the point that companies are tending to ignore this vital data point when selecting employees.
Great roundup, Kimberlee! Welcome to Carolyn. Our blogs themselves can be a powerful resume. :)
Say it ain't so Joseph! Skills can be taught, but how do you find the right person for the job? If we look at articles written on Manager's Realm not too long ago about what and who talent is, we know that truly qualified people who will fit into the company culture will never be found by hiring based on the application. I have never gotten a job based on my application or resume, it always came after a great interview. I cannot begin to tell you how scary this news is...I don't really see how its feasible to completely do away with interviews, so I am looking forward to reading more on this. Carolyn, no I will not come clean your desk :D. I have a hard enough time keeping my own clean. As I was writing the comment on Productivity Goal, I realized that there wasn't much I could do to help Bill either. C'est la vie (that's life!); we all have to clean our own desks. Thanks for the comments!

Very Intersting subjects .. by the way my name is very close to Antonella Barber American Idol ..but thats not me ;)
