The 33^rd G8 Summit is currently being held in Heiligendamm, Germany, June 6-8, 2007. The G8 (or Group of 8) is composed of eight of the world’s wealthiest countries that make up about 65% of the world’s economic output and 14% of the population. The G8 Summit is attended by the heads of government, including the European Union, who discuss topics of global importance, including economic and social development, labor, trade, energy, health, law enforcement, environment, foreign affairs, justice and interior, and terrorism. This year’s Summit has already been marred by violent clashes between protestors and police.
