We have some great news: on Sunday Aug 19, 2007, our own Associate Editor Kimberlee Morrison was a recipient of the 2007 Ziba Beauty “Woman of Substance” award. She received the award along with Erin Gruwell and several other dedicated Freedom Writer women of the Freedom Writers Foundation. The award was given in conjunction with the 4^th annual Ziba Girl model search award at the Long Beach Towne Center in Long Beach, CA.

The Ziba Beauty “Woman of Substance” award is a new award that is given to women who actively make a positive difference in society, who are role models that add exceptional value to the community. Kimberlee Morrison is certainly worthy of that honor. Kimberlee has been a valuable part of Know More Media for over a year. She is one of the original Freedom Writers, taught by Erin Gruwell at Wilson High in Long Beach, CA in the 1990s. She was very closely involved in writing the powerful Freedom Writers Diary and continues to be involved in the Freedom Writers Foundation today.

Hundreds of people attended the Ziba Beauty award ceremony on the outside plaza of the Long Beach Towne Center, where Ziba Beauty Salon recently opened one of its 10 southern California beauty salons. In addition to the award, a surprise awaited Kimberlee and the other award recipients when they all also received a certificate of recognition from Long Beach City Councilmember Suja Lowenthal (Second District).

“I am truly honored to have received this award and recognition,” said Kimberlee after the event. “It was also great to be honored alongside my longtime mentor Erin Gruwell. She has opened so many doors and possibilities to us, and I am eternally grateful.”
