Know More Media Review: Super Bugs, Social Media Scandals, Boss' Day, Comcast Must Die and a Common Sense Contest

Blog Action Day was a huge success with Know More Media authors contributing over 30 articles to the cause. Network wide very little could top that kind of buzz but there were several topics worthy of mentioning in today’s Know More Media Review.

The Staph “super bug” is still causing quite a stir. BusinessKnowMoreMedia pointed out that treating this new super bug could be costly for businesses; WorkFromHomeMomma expressed her own concern and listed some tips for proactive home business owners; TheBizofKnowledge wondered who should be concerned and gave some suggestions on what to do to avoid infection; PharmaGazette explained what Staph infections are and offered some information from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) on precautions and preventative measures.

In this nouveau information age in is important for people to be careful what they put online – even if they think it’s harmless. Recently the President of Salisbury University in Maryland Janet Dudley-Eshbach became the subject of public scrutiny for a picture found on her Facebook profile. SmallBizMentor remarked on how social networking scandals can be harmful for ones professional life; BrandingPost pointed out that privacy – the way we are used to it – is a distant memory; and TheBizofKnowledge published some of the comments from students at the University and Dudley-Eshbach as well and wondered if the President’s explanation showed a “private” racist tendency.

For anyone who missed it, Tuesday was National Boss’ Day. Yep, it’s really a national holiday registered with the Chamber of Commerce. Workerette presented ideas for what to do next time Boss’ Day comes around; OfficeStuffer made some suggestions on how to be a great employee; YourIndividualBrand author David Sandusky reflected on how own team used the day as an excuse to show their appreciation even though he is not considered a “boss;” and LeaderNotes admonishes those in positions of power not to boss but to be a leader instead.

Comcast (CMCSA) seems to be in trouble with their customers and one of them even created a blog dedicated to a customer revolt. As many business leaders already know, companies set themselves apart with great customer services. This sentiment was echoed by both WorkFromHomeMomma and CustomersAreAlways who republished an Ode to Comcast’s seeming disregard for their customers.

Before I close out, I want to point everyone in the direction of CareerSuperStacommon%20sense.jpgr to enter the contest for Use Your Common Sense Day. I have to agree with YourIndividualBrand that we should use common sense everyday. However, sometimes common sense is not so common and author Bud Billanich wants to hear about your stories of common sense in action. Billanich is offering some great prizes and will announce the winner on his column as well as in Las Vegas at the Know More Media booth at the Blog World Expo on November 9th.
