Verizon Communications Inc. (NYSE: VZ) has announced the new Verizon Voyager cell phone, manufactured by LG and due to launch in the U.S. by late November. The Voyager is being widely hailed as the most significant contender to the Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL) iPhone, which runs on the AT&T Inc. (NYSE: T) network. In this article, you'll see a video review of the Voyager, several comparisons between the Voyager and iPhone handsets, and links to several news articles discussing the Voyager.

Voyager vs iPhone Comparisons
Stephen Schleicher at SciFi.com says the Voyager's biggest advantage over the Apple iPhone is its faster Internet access. Like Stephen, I doubt Verizon's chief marketing officer Mike Lanman's assertion that the Voyager "will kill the iPhone."
Engadget's Paul Miller agrees: "A couple of [the four new Verizon phones] might divert a few iPhone dollars from archrival AT&T" (emphasis mine).
Alex Ion at BizToolbelt lists four reasons the Voyager vs iPhone debate could tip in the Voyager's favor and thinks Voyager will reduce iPhone sales.
Verizon Wireless says the Voyager phone will initially cost less than $400. The iPhone currently retails for $399, $200 less than at its June launch.
Too bad the Verizon PolicyBlog, the only Verizon corporate blog of which I am aware, doesn't mention the new Verizon phones. As a corporate blogging fan, I wish Verizon would weigh in more conversationally on its website.
Four New Verizon Phones
Intomobile reports that Verizon is releasing three other handsets concurrently with the Voyager - namely, Juke, Pearl and Venus. Juke and Venus, like Voyager, are new handsets, while Pearl is an existing line experiencing an upgrade. Of these, only the Voyager boasts a touchscreen.
New Cell Phones More Powerful Than Ever Like the iPhone, the Voyager represents a new generation of cell phones able to perform most or all of the common tasks previously left to several separate devices like laptops, digital cameras, PDAs and phones. Thanks to increasing wireless Web availability and speed, this emerging wave is sure to affect the way millions of people across the globe work, play and even think.

What Do You Think of the Voyager?
What do you think? Will the Verizon Voyager sell better than the Apple iPhone? I say no way Jose, but it nonetheless should attract a sizable chunk of folks who yearn for a QWERTY keyboard and faster Web connectivity.
Disclosure: I use Verizon Wireless for my cell phone service. I wish the bill were lower, but the service is fine.
