While at the Blogworld Expo we had a chance to meet a number of people from various new media organizations. One such organization was Blog Talk Radio which happened to be broadcasting live from the Expo. Since part of our purpose in being at the Expo was to network and spread the word about Know More Media and its recent partnership with b5media, I felt it apropos to sign up our CEO and Co-Founder Hal Halladay for a (surprise) interview.
Sometimes the best thing you can do is move forward whether you have a plan or not. Halladay noted that it felt good to tell the Know More Media story if for no other reason but to remind himself of what it is and why he started the company. What I thought would be a simple opportunity to talk about our new partnership turned out to be a very engaging interview about the company, our blogs, and the importance blogging and other new media.
To a question about the perception that blogs lack credibility, Halladay replied...
What it’s about is people having a voice…You know blogs have credibility issues but you have to recognize that they’re not hard news, they’re opinion, they’re viewpoint. Very rarely are stories broken on blogs – well sometimes they will be – but most often it’s information, it’s analysis and a viewpoint on the world, on events…it’s not always news. The news media wants to make it look like its news and therefore most of it is irrelevant. There is a ton of information that’s not news, its expertise and it’s relevant in its viewpoint. And they’re using blogs as viewpoint. When they do that I think it’s successful because what does somebody have to say about Giuliani, or any issue…It might not be news but its valuable to me.
