Time for the weekly network review; here’s a quick round up of the hot topics for the week.
Two pretty big things happened this week in digital media: Google (GOOG)
announced the official release of Open Social very close to the beta launch of the NBC (GE) and News Corp. (NWS) joint venture, and supposed GooTube competition called Hulu. While there are many wondering if Hulu will be the YouTube killer, AdHurl was not at all impressed and TheBizofShowBiz suggested that Hulu will be bigger competition for the cable industry. BizToolBelt also believes Hulu has a very different audience than YouTube and BrandingPost asserted his opinion that YouTube will continue to prosper.
I think it’s pretty odd for a town to be put up for auction on eBay but apparently, that’s what someone did with the small town of Albert, Texas. BrandingPost was interested to know why there weren’t more towns listed on eBay; while both SistersInBiz and MarketingBlurb discussed the smart marketing efforts of Bobby Cave, the town’s owner and developer, noting that the eBay auction probably helped to drive the price up from $2.5 million to $27 million and counting.
There was another recall today from yet another trusted food brand, General Mills. While PharmaGazette wants to make sure everyone know exactly what E-Coli is, TheAlphaMarketer examined the recall as an example of the importance of due diligence and BrandingPost discussed the damage caused to food brands in particular when there is a recall.
