I guess time flies when you are having fun.
It is really quite hard to believe that two years have passed since we undertook this adventure at Know More Media and officially launched our network of business blogs. Year one was simply plunging into the unknown. Year two has found us settling onto a clearer path although without the visibility to completely know where we will arrive.
Our vision and motto at the time was “All Business. All the Time.” With that vision we hoped to provide business expertise on niche topics. We have stayed true to that vision and still believe that blogging and other social media offer a tremendous opportunity to share and inform. We believe that there are thousands of business experts that have much to contribute and will do so successfully if given a platform.
Critics of the blogosphere – many in the mainstream media – often question the validity and newsworthiness of blogs. Who is checking facts? Where is the discipline? What about the typos and the conversational nature? They cite statistics that there are so many blogs and so many about nothing.
I agree. There are typos. There are a lot of blogs about nothing (sounds like a pitch for a situation comedy). There is minimal central oversight. Few are checking facts. However, that does not render ineffective or invalid the opinion, view and authority of all blogs.
Blogging is informational as well as commentary. It is not mainstream media but citizen journalism. Bloggers often interpret the news. They provide context. They provide know-how, expertise and advice. In a world before blogging, information, analysis and news was created, produced, edited and distributed by few and the cost to obtain this information was high. Today, such content (some of it inaccurate) is created, produced, edited and distributed by many and the cost is low. The masses edit and the people decide which stories are worth reading.
So here we are. Moving in to 2008 and we still see so much potential for Know More Media and business blogging. Thanks to our great authors. We have a stable of very talented and knowledgeable business experts. A handful started with us when we went looking for authors in January 2006. We have appreciated their support and contribution.
The Know More Media network provides business experts a chance to share their expertise. Our authors do not have to concern themselves with the technical details of hosting or managing a blog. They can just write. And get paid to do so. Their authority and notoriety as an expert can blossom as their blog garners attention, focus and traffic. We do our best to promote and nurture our authors and their blogs.
It is humbling and exciting to be a part of such a talented group of business experts. We have learned from these authors. We look forward to sensing and responding to market changes and conditions. With a unified vision and focus on providing niche business content, I expect we will continue to grow our audience and the authority of our authors and the Know More Media network. Meanwhile, we will stick to “All Business. All the Time.”
