Watch this first.
You've just seen the trailer for "Two Million Minutes," a new documentary comparing secondary education in China, India and the United States. Named for the amount of time required to complete grades 9-12, the film looks at the lives of 6 teenage students in the 3 countries and concludes that the USA high school system is falling behind those of China and India.
Conceived and produced by Robert Compton, "Two Million Minutes" promises to shed light on problems in U.S. high school education.
The film's website says that China and India respectively generate up to 8 times and 3 times as many scientists and engineers as the U.S.I attended a magnet U.S. high school that emphasized science and technology and attracted applicants from several counties - but I'm stil not convinced that I actually got the education I deserved. (Then again, I mostly eschewed the sci/tech stuff in favor of choir and drama ...)
What do you think? Does the film look interesting? How do you think the U.S. compares to China, India and other countries in secondary education quality?
