Miley Cyrus Photos by Annie Leibovitz Teach Us Nothing We Don’t Already Know

Mylie Cyrus, the squeaky-clean Hannah Montana and resident Tween icon brought her game to the big leagues perhaps thinking it was still just a family picnic. Seems like just another cog in the Disney line-up of young seemingly innocent teens who are pushed to places they don’t belong.

You can be 15 years old. You can be nice and sweet. But if you are going to keepmylie cyrus liebowitz portrait.jpg your has-been Dad employed and the studio bosses happy, forget acting like a 15 year-old. As proven by Britney Spears, Lindsay Lohan and Paris Hilton, naughty sells - not nice. And the more you dress and act like a hot 19 year-old, the more the cash rolls in.

Every time I see footage of Mylie Cyrus in concert I ask, “she is 15 years old?” Older stars routinely play younger-aged characters in movies and on TV. And it seems younger stars keep being pushed to look and act older.

And so it is with the photos of Cyrus by celebrity photog, Annie Leibowvtz. I am sure it seemed like a good idea to be on the cover of Vanity Fair. I suppose the plan made sense given the reputation of Liebowitz. I don’t doubt that Cyrus and her parents reviewed the plan and reviewed the photos.

Shelley Fralic, from the Vancouver Sun

“As for that sultry photo, you can bet your east-side fixer-upper that not one person going into that photo shoot with Annie Leibovitz, including Disney or her parents, didn't know what would come out the other end, and that it would hardly be suitable for the average mall rat.”

All those adults and no one thought the pose perhaps inappropriate for the 15 year-old? No one, that is, until there was a chance that the fan base might revolt and withhold their precious dollars from the Hannah Montana juggernaut. Despite the apologies and full-court press by the PR professionals and handlers, it is allmylie cyrus tooth tunes.jpg about dollars and little sense.

Yes, from the small towns of America, it sure seems cool to be cool – and rich. Cyrus' recent concert movie “Hannah Montana Miley Cyrus - Best of Both Worlds Concert Movie“ grossed $60+ million, and she pulls about one million dollars a week from her tour. Add to that revenues from the Hannah Montana show, CD sales and endorsements like “Toothbrush Tunes” and there is plenty at stake if Mom’s of the fans don’t like it.

So let’s review. Young Disney star. Run away success based on a Disney-esque reputation. Money and success push young star to abandon reputation that created success and money. You know the names – Britney Spears, Lindsay Lohan, Vanessa Hudgens.

See video of the shoot and the article, “Miley Knows Best,” at Vanity Fair as well as a  slide show of candid images from the shoot.

I have mixed feelings on the photo. While it is a provocative picture of her, at the same time it is done in taste, and reminds me of a renaissance painting.

So much for Mylie. What a waste, and what an embarrassment for Disney. Shame on you, Billy Ray, for allowing your daughter to be exploited. Good thing she didn't bend over in that mini skirt, or we would have seen a full moon. She's now just another casualty of our oversexed society. Too bad for her, and too bad for America. I won't be buying my kids or grandkids anything that says Mylie on it. Ever. Neither will many other parents.
