How about the newer-than-new AFS Trinity XH-150? It reportedly gets up to 150 MPG.
With gas prices going insane (to put it mildly), now might be a great time to look into a gas miser like the Trinity XH-150.
Well, okay - not just yet. AFS says it won't have any XH-150s available for at least two or three years.
Something interesting I found at the Trinity FAQ page: a puzzle about costs.
See, the AFS folks estimate that you can save about $15.00 per week on fuel costs with their XH-150 model (a souped-up Saturn Vue). You're using less gas (much less) and more electricity (much more), but electricty is cheaper than gas (usually much cheaper).
But AFS also says its XH drive train could add more than $8,000 to the retail price of a hybrid SUV.
So at $60 savings per month, you'd need to drive the car for more than 11 years to justify paying for it.
Yes, tax breaks might help. And yes, gas prices will probably go up even more over the next decade, making the break-even point come sooner for high-MPG enthusiasts.
But for most, I think the time is not yet right. Wait a year or two for competition to stiffen.
What do you think of the AFS XH-150 drive train and its incredible 150-MPG claim?
