I have to tip my hat to my wife Gina. About nine months ago, Gina started a blog called QuiltersBuzz. Back then she was a hobbyist quilter, part-time quilt instructor and she managed a quilt store – and let’s not leave out – the mother of our four children.

I suggested to her that a blog would be a great way to connect to quilters. She didn’t know much about blogs but she dove right in with the same passion she has for most things.

Fast forward to today. Gina has published nearly 170 posts and received about 250 comments and 40 trackbacks. QuiltersBuzz has attracted more than 50,000 visitors, and nearly 130,000 page views. These numbers are double what they were about four months ago. While there is nothing too special about any of these stats, the non-data results of these numbers have been quite remarkable.

Quiltersbuzz was featured as one of the top ten quilting blogs around the world in Quilter’s Home magazine and was also highlighted in the October issue of Country Living Magazine (the apparent Holy Grail of quilting publications). Gina also started a long-arm quilting (quilt finishing) business – the Threaded Pear.

All this with no gimmicks, no SPAM, no blog training. Just writing what she knows as often as she can with a family and a small business to run.

It is funny and even amazing what a little software tool like a blog can do when combined with a passionate and talented writer and an engaged audience of faithful followers.
